It is vital that your engine reach its normal operating temperature as quickly as possible. This is especially true during this time of year when we experience the coldest temperatures.
An engine that is operating at the correct temperature will:
- Reduce potential engine wear
- Improve fuel economy
- Prevent catalytic converter damage
If your car does not reach its operating temperature (3/8-1/2 way mark on the gauge) within ten minutes of driving, then the thermostat might not be properly functioning and will need replacement.
